Day 2: Hanoi – City tour

This comprehensive day tour takes in all of Hanoi’s essential sites. In the morning, we will visit Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum (1), his house on stilts, the One Pillar Pagoda and the Temple of Literature. We will visit the West Lake briefly before lunch at the Song Thu Restaurant.
Afterwards we head to Ngoc Son Temple and Hoan Kiem Lake. The Ngoc Son temple is set on a tiny island on the Hoan Kiem Lake and dates back to the 13th century. The lake itself is a picturesque focal point of Hanoi, frequented by tourists and locals alike. After this we take a relaxing one hour cyclo tour through the Old Quarter. Also known as the 36 streets, this bustling area of narrow streets is home to literally thousands of small businesses and shopkeepers. It’s a great place to explore with plenty of photo opportunities. Then, transfer to Thang Long Opera for enjoying water puppet show
(1) The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum is closed on Monday and Friday and in October and November. In this case we will visit one or more of the following museums: Army, History, National Fine Arts, Ethnology or Women’s museum.

Day 3: Hanoi – Halong Bay

This morning, our guide and driver will pick up at hotel and drive to Ha Long Bay. Ha Long Bay, in the Gulf of Tonkin, includes some 1,600 islands and islets, forming a spectacular seascape of limestone pillars. In 1994 this unique landscape was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.
On arrival at the harbor, we transfer to our traditional luxury wooden junk, the Paradise Luxury Cruiser. Enjoy a welcome cocktail on the top sun deck as we depart the dock and head towards this amazing natural wonder. As we cruise deeper into Halong Bay, enjoy an Asia Fusion buffet, as we watch the amazing limestone cliffs pass by.
This afternoon we have an opportunity to explore some of the most famous caves and grotto’s in the Halong area. Take a rowing boat to the shore to explore ‘Surprise Cave’ or for the more adventurous, take a kayak and paddle to Luon cave, this cave is a natural tunnel that thrusts through the limestone cliff to reveal an exotic lagoon
This afternoon we continue our cruise to the Pearl farm area of Tung Sau. Where we can enjoy swimming or kayaking. This is the location for our overnight stay. This evening our hosts provide a cooking demonstration where the local chef will show you the secrets of Vietnamese cuisine. Enjoy a sunset cocktail on the top sundeck. This evening provides an elegant five course set dinner in one of the best overnight boating locations in the world. Enjoy happy hour drinks on the open-air deck.

Day 4: Halong – Hanoi – Hue

This morning we awake to enjoy a Tai Chi session on Sundeck prior to an International buffet breakfast. Morning activities can include more swimming and kayaking in this amazing location or one can enjoy the beauty spa services of the Paradise Cruiser.
As we continue our cruise through Halong Bay we visit Ti Top Island which has one of the most beautiful beaches in the Bay. You can also climb the 400 steps of Ti Top lookout which provides breathtaking panoramic views of the Bay. We then return to the Halong harbor where your private guide and driver will be waiting.
Lunch at Viet Tien Son Restaurant.
On our return trip to Hanoi we will stop at a furniture village where you will be surprised at the beauty, quality and sophistication of the furniture made by “golden hands” of skilled craftsmen here. If you wish, you can have handcrafted furniture custom-made here and exported directly to your address abroad.
A small snack and fruit of the season will be provided before you board the plane to Hue.

Day 5: Hue – City Hue

Today we will focus on the life of one of the most interesting emperors of Vietnam: Tu Duc. You will learn about his life and times and visit his tomb.
Your guide and driver will transfer you to the boat-landing where you will board a dragon boat for a pleasant boat trip on the Perfume River. On our pleasant river journey to Tu duc’s tomb, we stop at the very characteristic Thien Mu Pagoda.
Tu Duc was Vietnam’s fourth emperor and lived from 1829 until 1883. During his reign Vietnam lost its independence to France. Tu Duc is said to have had 104 concubines. You learn everything about his life and the lives of the emperors during you visit.
After enjoy especial vegetarian lunch arranged by nuns of Dong Thuyen pagoda, you will visit the Forbidden Purple City, constructed under Emperor Gia Long’s reign in the early 19th century AD. It’s located inside the Citadel of Hue, which was the location of fighting between US forces and North Vietnamese during the Tet offensive of 1968. Established as the capital of unified Vietnam in 1802, Hué was not only the political but also the cultural and religious centre under the Nguyen dynasty until 1945. Hue was declared a UNESCO World Heritage in 1993. On completion of the tour we have our cyclo is waiting to transfer you back to the hotel

Day 6: Hue – Phu Mong village – Hoi An

Before departing Hué today we explore Phu Mong village, a community of ancient garden houses. Like other garden houses in Hué, the romantic and peaceful Phu Mong garden houses, each within its own private landscape, typically has two main areas: the wood structure and a surrounding garden, both designed according to geomancy and the owner’s spiritual life and talents. About 200 years ago, Phu Mong was home to a senior royal officer of the Nguyen Dynasty. Due to the rank of the early owners, the houses were built solidly and they withstand the monsoons, typhoons, and squalls which often devastate the central city. Phu Mong today includes more than ten garden houses built 150-200 years ago; we’ll have the opportunity to visit several.
After exploring the village, we drive south along the mountainous coast of central Vietnam En route to Hoi An, we ascend Hai Van Pass, with its incredible views over the Lang Co Lagoon and the Sea.
We’ll also have time for a short climb up the Marble Mountains to see the shrines and limestone caves that blanket the hills, with spectacular views over the beach and stopover at Cham museum for a visit to learn more about the Cham culture.
Lunch at local restaurant.
Later this afternoon we arrive in Hoi An, a picturesque town along the Thu Bon River. This exceptionally well-preserved example of a Southeast Asian trading port, dating from the 15th century, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1999. The remainder of the day is free to enjoy the hotel and its surroundings. The French patisserie near the hotel’s pool is just the place for dessert for those who have had a full day. Others may choose to see the city at night and sit at one of the many sidewalk cafés for an evening treat.

Day 7: Hoi An

This morning we take in charming Hoi An, where we discover the town’s many charms on a walking tour, which is by far the best way to appreciate life in this quaint fishing village. We visit local historical houses and temples and visit the famous Japanese bridge. As Hoi An is known for it’s extraordinary talent in tailoring we explore the local cloth market, at which point you are free to explore and taste some of Vietnam’s best cuisine.
Then, go to the port where you will embark on the boat. From the boat, you can enjoy the busy daily life of Hoi An people. Continue to Thanh Ha pottery village where you can learn and enjoy the daily life of Thanh Ha people. Observe all the steps of making a pottery product: vase, pot, kettle, cooking pot,…embark on the boat to visit Kim Bong carpentry village, listen to the history of the village, come to visit the ship-building yards, see the handicrafts and sculptures.
Have lunch at a Secret Garden Restaurant.

Day 9: Hoi An – Danang – Ho Chi Minh City

Fly Danang to Ho Chi Minh City on VN#1307 (08:00 – 09:10) – Economy class

You will be picked up from the airport by your private guide and driver for the transfer to the hotel.
You will visit Cho Lon – the Chinese quarter – the Thien Hau and Giac Vien pagodas, and stroll through the immense Binh Tay Market.
Lunch will be at Viet Heritage Restaurant.
Continue with a visit of the Reunification Palace, the former residence of the presidents of South Vietnam, before 1975 as well as the War Remnants Museum. Drive through the old colonial centre and admire the old Post Office, the Notre Dame Cathedral and the City Hall.
End the tour at the lively Ben Thanh Market, an ideal place for shopping.

Day 10: Ho Chi Minh City – Cu Chi Tunnel– Departure

This morning you will be picked up from the hotel by your private guide and driver for your excursion to the Cu Chi tunnels. During the Vietnam War the Vietcong dug out an extensive tunnel complex that served as a sanctuary in the fight against American forces. Part of the complex has been left in its original state. You can crawl through these tunnels, a harrowing experience indeed.
Drive back to Ho Chi Minh City for lunch at Pho Co Sai Gon Restaurant.
Transfer to the airport for afternoon flight
